Ethic's and Welfare Policy
We raise and treat all our animals ethically and sustainably, whether intended for the plate or not. We are registered with DEFRA, the AHPA (Animal Plant Health Agency) and the AHDB (Agricultural and Horticulture Development Board) and we are hoping to become RSPCA approved in the near future as we grow and we are always happy to answer any questions you might have. We are also members of the Rare Breed Survival Trust, visit them here at The Rare Breeds Survival Trust to find out more about some of the rare breeds we keep here.
We have to adhere to strict bio control, record keeping and many other legislations and sometimes get unannounced inspections, which we always welcome. We believe in transparency and honesty when it comes to our animals welfare.
All our hay, straw and feed supplies are local to us or are homegrown as we strive to maintain a carbon neutral footstep. Many of our animals are rescued or come from homes who could no longer keep them for various reasons and in return reward us with fresh eggs, weed control and companionship. All our hens, geese and other poultry are free ranging during the day and get safely locked away at night, with the goats, sheep and others having spacious pastured and woodland paddocks to enjoy.
Our rare breed pigs are bred and kept on site and we strive to maintain constant enrichments to their various paddocks and woodland areas. Pigs are natural foragers and love to dig with their powerful necks and snouts. Although primarily bred for consumption, our pigs have a fantastic life at the farm and we will only work with the best abattoirs and butchers (Edis of Ely) who we have personally vetted and under no circumstance's will we use any abattoir that engages in any hallah practices. All of our pork products are returned to us from our Butcher, put into cold storage here and sold directly to you, our valued customer. We can trace every part of your foods journey from farm to fork. Stop giving the big, greedy supermarkets your money!
We are currently awaiting our Food Hygiene rating from the local authority and will publish the results here afterwards.
